HISTORY OF ART AND ARCHITECTURE CURRENT POSITION OPENINGS
Opening for Faculty Position Assistant Professor, Arts of the Ancient and/or Early-Colonial Latin America
The Department of History of Art and Architecture, University of California Santa Barbara, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in The Art of Ancient and/or Colonial Latin America beginning July 1, 2018. We seek a colleague whose research makes new contributions to the understanding of visual culture in Pre- and/or Post-contact Latin America. Candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. in art history, architectural history, archaeology or a related discipline by the time of the appointment; a research specialization in Ancient to Colonial (to ca. 1850) Hispano- or Lusophone Latin America is required. A specialization in Pre- and/or Post-contact Mesoamerica is desirable. The versatility to teach widely across the divide of the Pre- and Post-contact Americas in a range of media is highly desirable. The successful candidate for this position will demonstrate a strong theoretical grounding in their research. He/she will teach a wide variety of courses ranging from undergraduate surveys to advanced graduate seminars and will contribute to departmental clusters of expertise in Art and Architecture of the Americas, Art and Architecture of the Ancient and Medieval Worlds, Art and Architecture of the Early-Modern World, and the undergraduate emphases in Museum Studies and/or Architecture and Environment. UC Santa Barbara encourages interdisciplinary studies and there will be opportunities for engaging with departments and programs such as Anthropology, Chicana and Chicano Studies, Classics, History, Latin American and Iberian Studies, and Spanish and Portuguese. The department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching, and service.
