Assistant Professor, Anthropology and Archaeology, 1-Year Visiting Position

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at The College of Wooster invites applications for a visiting position in Anthropology and Archaeology at the level of Assistant Professor, beginning in August 2020. We are looking for a broadly trained specialist in the four-field approach of anthropology and archaeology. A Ph.D. in anthropology is desirable. We are especially interested in hiring faculty who can contribute to the intellectual vibrancy and diversity of the academic community through their teaching, research, and service. The successful candidate should have a demonstrated ability to teach courses and advise research projects in anthropology (four-field approach) and archaeology, a mid-level course in the prehistory of the Old World (Europe, Near East, Africa, South Asia, East Asia), or New World other than Mesoamerica, and several mid-level courses in anthropology (e.g., bioarchaeology/ forensic anthropology, political anthropology, a cultural area course [other than Japan or Latin America]). They will teach the equivalent of 6 courses, including introductory and advanced courses in the Sociology and Anthropology Department, credited supervision of independent thesis projects as part of the College’s Independent Study program, and participate in teaching courses for non-majors. In addition, we are interested in candidates whose research and teaching can connect with one or more interdisciplinary programs at The College of Wooster such as Africana Studies, Global & International Studies, East Asian Studies, South Asian Studies, Middle Eastern and North African Studies, Urban Studies, or Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. |
