The R. Barbara Gitenstein Library at The College of New Jersey seeks a part-time (20 hours per week) project archivist for a 3-year grant period to organize and make accessible materials in the Library’s Archives and Special Collections. Reporting to the College Archivist and Special Collections Librarian, the successful candidate will process and digitize physical materials. This individual will arrange, describe, and rehouse collections. This individual will also create finding aids and metadata for the materials, and help ensure the long-term preservation of the collections physically and digitally.

Required qualifications:

• ALA-accredited master’s degree
• Knowledge of and experience with archival preservation standards and proper handling of materials and artifacts
• Experience arranging and describing archives and manuscript collections
• Experience digitizing archival collections according to standards and best practices

Preferred qualifications:

• Previous experience working with digital archival collection management and preservation tools such as Archivematica and AtoM
• Previous experience working with college/university archives
• Professional Archival Certification

Availability/Work hours:

• Position is a full-year/12-month renewable position for the term of 3 years, available immediately
• 20 hours/week; Non-tenure-track

About the Library:

R. Barbara Gitenstein Library is a five-story, 135,000-square-foot facility that serves as an intellectual, cultural, and social center for the college. In addition to housing traditional library collections and services, the building provides 26 group study rooms, two instructional computer labs, a cafe, a late-night study area, and a 105-seat multi-purpose auditorium. The library's collections consist of approximately 750,000 volumes in multiple formats (including eBooks) that have been selected by faculty and subject-specialist librarians to support course offerings of the college and to provide a broad representative collection of titles across many disciplines. The library has access to more than 75,000 periodical titles in a variety of formats.
