Position No. [00052693]. The Department of Anthropology at Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas, invites applications for a Lecturer in archaeology. The annual position will start August 1, 2026. We are looking for an individual who can teach introductory courses in archaeology, world prehistory, and biological anthropology, as well as upper division regional and/or topical courses. The ideal candidate will have a track record of excellence in teaching. Typical teaching load is 4:4 with no contractual obligations for research or service. This is a position for one year pending satisfactory performance reviews. Teaching will be largely undergraduate courses with occasional graduate level teaching possibilities in the candidate’s area of expertise. Teaching faculty have access to internal conference funds and competitive research funds upon submission and approval. Candidates must have PhD in hand by August 1, 2026.

Interested candidates should submit a cover letter addressing their teaching experience relative to the areas noted above, their curriculum vitae, the names and contact information of three references, and a teaching portfolio. The latter should include a statement of teaching philosophy, course evaluations for past courses taught, and three syllabi: one for an Introduction to World Prehistory course, another for an Introduction to Biological Anthropology course, and a third for an upper division undergraduate course of the candidate’s choosing.
